In this episode, we will talk to Prof. Alicia Dickenstein, who is a Full Professor at the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. She is also a senior researcher at the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET) at the “Luís Antoni Santaló” Institute for Mathematical Research (IMAS, CONICET-UBA), and a former vice-president of the International Mathematical Union. Alicia Dickenstein was recently awarded the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Awards in February 2021. She is very engaged in the situation of women in Mathematics, which is something that she addresses during this episode. When hiring someone in Academia, there are, according to her, invisible aspects in the recruitment process that create a bias favoring men. Among other things, Alicia also shares her experience of struggling as a young scholar, trying to combine family life with her professional career. She emphasizes long-term goals and encourages young academics to have confidence in themselves.
